Jade

One of the most mysterious gemstone is jade which has been appreciated predominantly by the Chinese community since antiquity.

Today jade is mined about 420 km north of Mandalay in Myanmar, former Burma, and then taken to the Mandalay jade market where it is cut and polished.

There is also a twice yearly auction, Emporium, in Yangon where you can bid for boulders of the finest jade.

Some of the best carving is done in Hong Kong with the highest final polish.

You can find excellent reading about the history and the different types of jade in the articles below by Richard W Hughes.

My friend U Tin Maung is one of the very experienced Burmese traders in the jade market. He and his friends have a sound knowledge in what determines ‘good’ and ‘valuable’ jade.

With this connection in mind I can supply you with the best quality of jade.
